Susan Kay, M.A., Executive Director

Susan Kay received her Masters of Transpersonal Counseling from Naropa University in 1994. Her clinical focus has been on serving children and their families. She has owned and operated a private practice and worked for five years as a therapist for a therapeutic preschool. She now provides professional development consultation and trainings for parents and teachers of young children. Susan has received advanced training in Theraplay® from the Theraplay Institute in Chicago and brings this expertise to Relationship Roots' "Relationship Building" program used to improve relationships between adults and children as well as among children.

Terri Emberling, MA, LPC, Director of Professional Development

Terri Emberling is the founder and director of Relationship Roots, Inc. The agency originally operated a therapeutic preschool to provide support and services for young children with extremely challenging behavior. She now focuses on sharing the expertise she developed during this time through her trainings and workshops. She teaches a wide variety of topics. Regardless of the topic, however, the ultimate goal is the same: to help adults provide the experiences young children need for optimal development, so that they can grow to be happy, successful and compassionate adults.

Terri has a Master's of Counseling Psychology from Regis University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She is an adjunct professor at Red Rocks Community College . Previously, she has worked with Aurora Mental Health, the Jefferson Center for Mental Health, and Jefferson County Head Start.
